Boston Brilliance

as much as I love compiling my favourite pics from other sites, a dream of mine is to start a street style blog to capture all the amazing outfits I see around me. sure, I am missing a decent camera, the balls to approach them, and the legal knowledge to avoid lawsuits, but a girl can dream.

one of my favourite examples of a street style blog is Beyond Boston Chic. I love the camera style and the quirky insights into style and life. I love the inside scoop of who's wearing what at Harvard, Cambridge.... it also does an excellent job of showcasing the city and drawing attention to cool cafes and shops around town.

below are some photos I have copied over from the blog...

why can't bridesmaids look like this?

as a bride who made her bridesmaids wear a pink sundress (sorry again ladies... I blame hormones) I can understand how difficult it is to avoid a clunker. that being said, I think more time should be spent looking to the runway for potential looks. I love the idea of a black embellished cocktail dress or a strapless pink number. even Miley's floor length number is adorable. I can only pray that if I end up a bridesmaid that the look will be this fashionable.

leather oh leather

so after pining and pining away for a leather jacket for months it was refreshing to see elle.com do a feature on all the street-chic leather jackets they have seen. a minor beef with the segment is almost no colours were featured with leather which I think is a total loss. leather is so delightfully neutral that really any other fabric (my pick would be satin) or colour (my pick would be teal or purple) would look amazing with it. Putting aside my minor colour quibble, I do like how mono-chromatic outfits work with leather because the varying textures add an element of interest to an otherwise boring outfit.

on another note, the photographer of all these pictures is Kelly Stuart who after perusing her website, I have become a huge fan of. Her travel section is especially interesting and I would love to get my hands on a collection of her pictures to put in a mini-gallery. She makes you want to take out your camera and capture life! Once I can find a way to capture her pictures and put them in a post I will.

Hope you all had a phenomenal weekend!

bec parsons is where the home is

through spending the last two years suffering from a more than mild case of homesickness, I have had plenty of time to consider what home is and what home means. for some it is a house. the house they grew up in or the house they spent time in. to others it is the people that inhabit this place. the friend you've had since you were three, the cousin you watched walk for the first time, or your parent who knows how to fix the casserole you just burnt. whatever home is to you, it is rare to see it captured in photography in the way Bec Parsons does. I have never lived on this street, laughed in these houses, or biked up these sidewalks, yet they still manage to exude the unbeatable feeling of home.

even when the scene is uniquely urban with none of the typical home characteristics, these pictures exude welcome.

cause i want to

so after spending an inordinate amount of time tinkering with finding the right theme for this post, I decided I would defy convention and just post stuff I like. there may be no unifying theme, but it does give you a glimpse into what I think is hot. it is perfect inspiration for the beginning of a long silly week. Is it Christmas yet?

mmmmm burberry

on my list of "things to own before I die" one of my more loft aspirations is to own a burberry trench coat and umbrella. obviously the umbrella is far more likely. the trench coats are an ubiquitous status symbol and the ultimate in sexy power chic. what is equally surprising to me is that the rest of their line is soft and wearable. I would love to wrap a brown belt around an adorable spring coloured onesie. mhmmm classy. here are some tidbits from the SS10 line. courtesy of in style magazine.

even celebrities cannot hold back their excitement.

Reese's perfection

it is hard not be envious of Reese Witherspoon. putting aside her bubbly demeanor, her sense of style is in my opinion almost unmatched. she oozes (yes, oozes) femininity but never in a way that would imply she is timid or to be taken advantage of. the plain shirts with printed skirts and classy accessories is a favourite look of mine. her evening dresses are so sexy without ever showing too much of anything. I am tres impressed.
