Gift Giving 101

Getting bad gifts is a fact of life. The "gift certificate" can only go so far. As the recipient of some rather questionable gifts, I have dedicated a portion of my conscious process to being a good gift giver. I pride myself on giving thoughtful, timely, and tasteful gifts. I spend HOURS planning a birthday present and Christmas shopping is something of a marathon from September on. Although my advice may be unwelcome and somewhat uneducated I have decided to share two tips.

1) You are presumably not gift giving to someone who you do not care about, so think deep down to why you like this person.

Is it their wicked sense of humor (BAM- comedy book, autobiography of a comic, bathroom reader, chia pet)?

Do you like the same movies (BAM- movie posters, DVDs from the dollar bin at Walmart, tv-show on DVD, authentic popcorn bucket)? Do they have impeccable taste (BAM- Instyle subscription, wacky bracelet, classy cookbook, herb garden)?

Once you have identified what you like about them, you have found a theme to carry you through. Even mix it up, do you watch baseball together (BAM- baseball hat, DVD of top baseball moments, history of Wrigley Field book)? Googling "baseball book" could give you endless ideas.

2) Once you have chosen the gift, take $5 from your gift budget and transfer it IMMEDIATELY to your wrapping budget. A $0.98 bow makes the gift INSTANTLY look $20 more expensive than it was. Colourful wrapping paper (preferably tissue paper) makes the gift look cheerful and welcoming. A card with humor or an inside joke will instantly get the person in the right mind set to LOVE the gift.

Happy Gift Giving!

Floral Inspirations

Summer nights may be dwindling in number, but florals can cheer even the gloomiest October.
Floral tank now = investment in summer later.
Pairing these cuties with skinny jeans, high waisted skirts, or long cardigans bridges summer and fall seamlessly.
